초록
This paper examines the tendency of the Japanese modal adverbs of confirmation in the texts of the Meiji and Taisho periods(1868-1926) from the stylistic features and differences by the “Corpus of Historical Japanese Meiji-Taishō Period Series”. As a result, Japanese modal adverbs of confirmation were frequently used in the colloquial style as an overall feature. In addition, Japanese modal adverbs of confirmation were classified into more colloquial adverbs(e.g. angai ‘unexpectedly’, jitsuwa ‘in fact’, doride ‘no wonder’, motomoto ‘originally’), more literary adverbs(e.g. gaisite ‘generally’, somosomo ‘in the first place’), and adverbs used in both literary and colloquial type(e.g. ippanni ‘in general’, jijitsu ‘in fact’), and there was a substantial difference in the tendency by literary and colloquial style in each word. Furthermore, from the perspective of adverbization, among Japanese modal adverbs of confirmation, there were adverbs in the Meiji and Taisho period texts that began to be formed as modal adverb(e.g. jijitsu ‘in fact’) and adverbs that consisted of 'nouns expressing veracity' and particle 'wa' (e.g. jitsuwa, hontowa ‘in fact/actually’). Based on this survey, it is necessary to analyse a wide range of Japanese typical modal adverbs(e.g. kitto ‘surely’, kesshite ‘never’) and clarify the tendency of stylistic usage from the Showa era to the present.
Abstract
