본고는 근년 화제를 모은 한일 양국의 편의점 소설을 분석의 대상으로 삼는다. 편의점을 무대로 만들어진 한일 양국의 작품군에는 어떠한 사회문화적 변화가 담겨있는지 그 의미를 찾아보고자 하였다. 주목할 것은 한국과 일본 모두 편의점 근무자들의 시점에서 작품을 전개시키면서 갈등을 노출시키는 한편 그 갈등의 해결 방식 또한 편의점 근무자들의 시점에서 진행한다는 것이다. 즉 편의점 문학을 통해서 한일 양국이 급격히 변화하는 사회 구조를 노출시키고 사회 저변의 구조적 문제 또한 드러내고 있다는 것은 중요하다. 따라서 편의점 소설에 주목하여 현대사회 속 문학의 역할을 재검토할 수 있다. 구체적으로 한일 ‘편의점’ 소설이 현대 사회에서 어떠한 것을 시사하고 있는지, 한국과 일본의 어떤 문제를 다루면서 그려냈는지를 비교 분석하고, 한일 소설에 나타난 편의점 근무자들을 둘러싼 문제의 상태 및 갈등구조 방식, 갈등의 해결 방식 등을 비교하여 그 의미를 살핀다. 현대 사회에서 편의점이라는 공간은 단순히 물건을 판매하는 곳이 아닌, 정상과 비정상의 경계 속에서 편견과 동시에 안락을 제공하는 새로운 리얼리즘이 창출되고 있는 사회문화적인 공간으로서 의미가 확대되고 있다. 즉 편의점이 사회적으로 <보통>·<정상>·<일반>과는 거리가 있는 공간으로 취급당하면서도 오히려 가장 안정적이고 위안을 받는 공간으로서 이중적으로 묘사되고 있다는 것은 한일 양국의 소설에서 동일하게 나타나는 점이다.
Abstract
This paper focuses on convenience store novels from Korea and Japan, which have drawn attention in recent years. It is intended to find out the meaning of what socio-cultural changes are contained in the works of both Korea and Japan, which were created as a stage for convenience stores. It should be noted that both Korea and Japan expose conflicts while developing works from the perspective of convenience store workers. And on the other hand, the method of resolving the conflict is also carried out from the perspective of convenience store workers. In other words, it is important that Korea and Japan expose rapidly changing social structures and reveal structural problems underlying society through convenience store literature.Therefore, it is possible to reexamine the social possibilities and role of literature through an in-depth understanding of convenience store novels.
