골프 역사와 골프장 입지에 관한 연구

Abstract

This study aims to examine the golf history of South Korea and to analyze the spatial pattern and characteristics of golf courses in South Korea. Geography is concerned with space. We need to know the meanings that different groups attach to space as well as the activities that groups carry out in their environments. The discussion of where golf courses are in Korea is important. A function of social scientists is to search for order in their subject-matter and to try to explain the patterns so established, i.e. to examine those processes that appear to produce a particular pattern. After we search for the patterns of the golf courses, we must seek the reasons for their presence, absence, or concentration in particular areas. In the early stage, the golf courses were constructed with cities such as Seoul or Busan. In the 1970 s, the golf courses were distributed throughout nation. In the 1980 s, they were formed around highways. As the golfer population grew, in the 1990 s, many golf courses were established in the periphery of small and medium-sized cities in South Korea. The reason of the rapid distribution of golf courses is well-developed highways throughout nation and therefore, more people could use the golf courses located within an hour.
