초록

In 21st century, spirituality is regarded as a concept that exists in every human mind regardless of their religion. Spirituality gives motivation and energy to live one's life thoroughly. The concept of spirituality came from many principles such as the common wisdom of major religion, modern and ancient philosophy, and psychology. The universal concept of spirituality exists in those principles - the realization of universal self', holistic self, god in you. That realization can be called as holism. Holistic view is based on the concept of looking at self as microcosmos in the cosmos. Since the main ideas has been harmony and interrelatedness among people, it make us to practice love, devotion, happiness, and liveliness. Korean people have been very holistic. Many religion and philosophy have molded Korean the culture and affected the lives of the people throughout the history. The people embraced spirituality from many religion and philosophy. As a result, the people aimed the realization of the will of God( 天), the principle of cosmos, the cultivation of body and mind, the love(= mercy, devotion) as the goal of life. Traditional Korean dance reflects this spiritualistic and holistic view of life on the movement, and the structure of dance. This can be called as 'the spiritualistic view of dance'. In this view, the body is regarded as 'microcosmos' that resembles the universe. Breathing works is the driving force in traditional Korean dance. With the breathing of the lung, whole body starts to react. Meanwhile, the flextion of joints shows circular movement that means tae-geuk(the natural flow of in and yang). The spiritualistic view of dance can be explained with the concept of 1. Sam-ja and unity of god and human 2. Muweejayeon 3. Sinmyung 4. Jung-ki-sin. The fact that each movement happens based on the consideration of earth and sky shows the philosophy 'Sam-ja'. According to Sam-ja, human-being exists between earth and sky. The human is made to unite with the sky(god). Muweejayeon, meaning not doing anything but leave as nature(cosmos), means getting rid of artificiality in the movement. Sinmyung means experiencing flow and catharsis that changes negativeness into liveliness. Jung-ki-sin is the view of human body. 'Jung' is physical things in the body and 'Sin' is spiritual part of the body. 'Ki', as the energy in th cosmos and the body, connects Jung and Sin. As a result, the spiritualistic value of traditional Korean dance are 1. realization of sacred self and cosmos(god) 2. contemplation 3. living the present moment 4. happiness 5. purification.

The concept of spirituality came from many principles such as the common wisdom of major religion, modern and ancient philosophy, and psychology.
