경관에 투영된 장소정체성의 사회적 재구성과 의미- 일본 하코다테를 사례로 -

Abstract

Landscape is a meaning of social symbol and also a physical factor which leads to some experience. Physical construction of landscape which reflects an ideology of inhabitants is socially reconstructed and consistently changing. Consequently it is important to understand the appearance of landscape in the context of the ideology which leads to that consistent change. The landscape should be understood within the dynamic framework because landscape as historical heritage is not descended in the complete form but continually reconstructed and change the significance and value of itself according to social needs. In this point of view, this paper analyzes the social reconstruction of landscape by a case of Seoboo district, Hakodate. In the mid-nineteenth century Hakodate became the first opened port to foreign. After that it continued prosperity as the modern port city until the first decades of the twentieth century. However during the growth of industry it suffered a long stagnation due to underdevelopment. But in the case of Hakodate, this underdevelopment caused a conservation of modern historical heritages which are history and vestiges of the open port. Accordingly Hakodate is attempting to revitalize the regional development by activating the heritage tourism with many historical heritages. In this process, Hakodate inhabitants intend to establish the place identity of Hakodate as international city or place of international peace, and reproduce the landscape in line with that. In this context, the Perry square and bronze status of Perry which was built in Hakodate are interpreted as the landscape that was reconstructed by social consent.
