대문자 드라마의 장에서 ‘역사’라는 질료는 유독 문제적이다. 드라마가 인간과 세계의 길항을 언제나 ‘지금/여기’의 시공간 위에 형상화한다는 점에서 역사의 극화는 과거의 현재화에 다름 아니기 때문이다. 과거를 현재로 소환하는 일은 결코 간단하지가 않다. 여기에는 소환할만한 과거 혹은 의미 있는 역사란 무엇인가에 대한 가치 평가가 개입한다는 점에서 일종의 역사관이 투사되어 있는 것이다. 그동안 대문자 드라마의 장에서 통용되어온 역사극과 사극, 정통과 퓨전, 사실과 허구를 절충한 팩션 등과 같은 수식어의 난립은 역사 소재 드라마를 둘러싼 역사관과 예술관의 복잡다단한 얽히고설킴을 고스란히 보여준다. 이 글은 이러한 난맥을 돌파하기 위한 하나의 모색으로서 ‘역사-드라마’라는 개념을 제안하는 시론적 성격을 지닌다. 역사-드라마는 미디어의 중재를 통한 역사의 극화를 통칭하는 개념이다. 역사와 드라마를 연결하는 하이픈은 상징적이다. 이는 역사와 드라마의 접속을 환기하는 ‘이음’이고, 역사적인 것 가운데 드라마적인 것을 ‘추출’하는 수식이며, 역사와 미디어와 드라마의 연쇄를 지시하는 ‘기호’로서의 의미를 지닌다. 역사적인 것이 무대와 스크린과 텔레비전을 통해 드라마적인 것으로 옮겨지는 과정에서 역사-드라마는 두 가지 덕목을 동시에 요구받는다. 그것은 ‘역사에 대한 진지함’과 ‘드라마에 대한 진지함’이다. 이는 역사가 드라마로 형상화되는 연쇄 속의 다양한 상황과 맥락을 ‘진지하게’ 다루는 것을 의미한다. 역사적 진지함이란 역사의 사실 혹은 진실의 진위 여부보다 역사적 상상력과 그로 인한 역사 이상과 이외의 살핌을 텍스트 본연의 역할로 간주하는 것이다. 한편 드라마적 진지함은 이러한 역사의 재구 과정에서 드라마에 기본적으로 요구되는 미학 원리에 충실하게 텍스트를 직조하는 것을 일컫는다. 이러한 두 가지 진지함의 접점에 존재하는 것이 바로 아나크로니즘적 상호텍스트성이다. 이러한 맥락에서 보자면 텔레비전 역사-드라마는 텔레비전이라는 일종의 타임머신을 통해 역사와 드라마가 상상의 시공간 속에서 조우함으로써 과거와 현재가 나누는 진지한 대화인 셈이다.
Abstract
In the field of History, history is especially problematic material. Historical dramatization is a kind of visualization of the past, in that drama forms conflicts between human and world in the ‘here/now space’ time. However, it is not easy to recall the past into the present. It is because this work is deeply involved with what the recallable or meaningful history is, or the view of history. Rhetorical flourishes- faction, legitimacy, fusion and historical drama-about drama with historical materials shows the complicated relation between view of history and view of art. This study suggests the concept of ‘history- drama’ to break this impasse. ‘History-drama’ refers to the dramatization of history through the arbitration of media. In this term, a hyphen between history and drama is symbolic: the connection between history and drama, the extraction of dramatic thing from history, and the sign implying the linkage among history, media, and drama. ‘History-drama’ is required to have two virtues, or the seriousness of drama and history, at the same time through dramatization of historical things in the stage, screen and television. The seriousness of history implies historical imaginary is considered the original role of text than historical reality or fact. The seriousness of drama means the text of drama is faithfully reconstituted based on the aesthetic principles. There is anachronic intertextuality on the contact point between the seriousness of history and drama. In this context, television history-drama is an earnest conversation between the past and the present by television, a kind of time machine, in which history and time could encounter in the imaginary space time.
