Abstract
This study proposes that the Hawaii Big Island Kona coffee farm experience goes beyond a simple tourism product and in fact offers multi-layered values, such as education on climate change, local economic activation, and sustainable agriculture. Recently, various problems have become serious challenges for farmers and researchers. ‘Coffee berry borer’ (CBB) has reduced yield and quality, and ‘coffee leaf rust’ (CLR), discovered in 2020, has affected the growth and quality of the fruit. In addition, climate change has led to changes in precipitation and temperature, high labor costs, and uncertainty in the conditions or duration of leased farmland, all of which do not provide long-term stability to farmers. Therefore, efforts to experience Hawaiian coffee farms are not simply tourism content, but can increase the commercial value of coffee by implementing sustainable coffee farming practices and positively affecting the local economy. We aim to present a future tourism model that integrates climate change strategies, sustainability, and local culture.
