Abstract

Research on Lee Beom-seon's literature has been mainly focused on short stories. In future studies, studies on Novels that have not yet been illuminated should be carried out more closely. In particular, discussing his novels in connection with the context of the entire world of works is a very important task in the study of Lee Beom-seon. In this article, focusing on Lee Beom-seon's last Novel, The Note of the White Crow, I examined the world of Lee Beom-seon's literature that appeared in this novel in connection with the short story, and examined the characteristics of Lee Beom-seon's literature. The evaluation of Lee Beom-seon's novels is that his literature's major achievement is that he does not lose his confidence in humanism through the exploration of community and humanity while revealing distrust of human beings due to the experience of being betrayed by society and the state. However, in Lee Beom-seon's last feature, The Note of the White Crow, the state of the narrator who says that he has lived in this street like a foreigner, shutting the door toward society and humans and maintaining indifference is a new problem that shakes the achievement of Lee Beom- seon's work from its roots. It can be seen as a presentation of consciousness. Tracking the whereabouts of this humanism will be the beginning of a new evaluation of the world of Lee Beom-seon's work, as well as the Note of the White Crow. However, it should be understood that the ending of the narrative such as this anti-humanism declaration may be the result of an extraordinary challenge and a daunting gaze that Lee Bum-seon himself attempted to renew his literature completely from the root. In addition, in the context of the discourse of humanism that appeared in Korean literature after liberation, it is worth noting that Lee Bum-seon's literature reflects on the fundamental aspects of human society, rather than condemning the barbarism of communism or emphasizing damage from them. Understanding this correctly may be another important basis for an integrated analysis of Lee Bum-seon's novels.
