陳暘 『樂書』의 樂論 硏究(4) - 禮記訓義」 중 「樂記」를 中心으로 -

陳暘의 『樂書』는 중국역대의 음악과 춤에 관한 모든 것을 정리하여 송나라 휘종에게 바쳐진 대표적인 음악이론서이다. 「악서」는 중국음악 연구뿐만 아니라 조선시대의 음악연구에도 빼놓을 수 없는 중요한 문헌이다. 「악서」 가운데서 특히 「禮記訓義」의 「樂記」를 연구대상으로 하였다. 「악기」는 儒家의 음악관을 집대성한 문헌으로 동양음악철학과 한국음악사상을 연구하는 데에는 반드시 극복해야 할 과제라 할 수 있다.「예기훈의」의 「악기」는『예기』 「악기」에서 118개의 樂에 관한 중요 문단을 발췌하여 訓義와 註釋을 해놓았는데, 처음부터 3개의 문단을 연구대상으로 하였다. 첫째, 음악은 人心에서 나온다. 음악은 아름다움[美]만으로는 완전한 樂이 될 수 없으며, 그 아름다움을 절제할 수 있는 도덕적인 善을 함께하는 경지, 즉 盡善盡美한 음악이어야 한다. 이는 도덕성과 예술성이 융합된 조화의 경지가 될 것이다. 둘째, 儒家가 음악의 道로 삼는 소리는 人性의 고요함 속에서 감응시키는 바를 신중히 한 소리로서 조화[和]를 거스르지 않는 中和의 소리를 말한다. 그것은 소리의 美醜만을 쫓는 것이 아니라, 道心의 바름으로 절제된 소리[聲] 이어야 한다. 셋째, 禮樂刑政이 그 궁극의 목표는 민심을 하나 되게 하여 화평한 세상으로 이끄는 것이다. 그 실천사상을 「周易」의 卦에서 찾았는데, 禮는 謙괘의 象으로, 樂은 豫괘로, 政은 賁괘로, 政은 豐괘의 道로 그 실천 덕목을 삼았다. 진실로 그 道가 이루어진다면, 民心을 하나 되게 하여 온 천하를 한집처럼 여기고 禮樂을 政刑의 근본으로 삼아, 仁義道德으로 治道를 내는 화평한 세상이 될 것이다.
Abstract
Jin Yang's 『Book of Music』 is one of representative Chinese books of music theories, which collected all about Chinese music/dance and was submitted to the King Hwijong of Song Dynasty. It is an important book that cannot be neglected to study not only the music of China but also the music of Joseon Dynasty. This study is focused on 「AkGi」of 「YeGiHunEui」, a section of 『Book of Music』 「AkGi」 is a document that collects all about the Confucian scholars' viewpoint of music, which must be understood to study the philosophy of oriental music and idea of Korean music. 「AkGi」 of 「YeGiHunEui」 collected 118 important paragraphs about music from 「AkGi」,『YeGi』 and translated them with comment. From the first, 3 of them were targeted for this study. First, music is from human mind. Music cannot become a complete Joy (樂) with[beauty] only. That is, it shall be the music of genuine-goodness /genuine-beauty at the level of which the music is with moral goodness to control its beauty. At this level, the music is harmonized with morality and artistry. Second, the sound regarded as the principle (道) of music by Confucian scholars is the sound of neutralization (中和) that is not against harmony (和) as a sound, which seriously follows what is inspired under the silence of humanity. It should not follow only the beauty/ugliness of sound. Furthermore, it should be the sound of Sung (聲) controlled by goodness of principle mind (道心). Third, the Rule/Joy/Punishment/Politics (禮樂刑政) ultimately aims to make the people's mind become one so that the people can be led to peaceful world. The idea of practice for it was found in the Gwae (卦)s of 『Book of Changes (周易)』 as follow: Sang (象) of the Gwae Gyeom (謙) for Rule (禮); the Gwae Ye (豫) for Joy (樂); the Gwae Bun (賁) for Punishment (刑); and principle (道) of the Gwae Pung (豐) for Politics (政). If the principle (道) is truly realized, the people's mind will become one and they will regard the entire world as one home and use Rule/Joy (禮樂) as the based of Politics/Punishment (政刑), so that they will be led to a peaceful world where the principle of politics (治道) will be realized by InEuiDoDeok (仁義道德).
