사행록에 기록된 지방공연문화의 변모양상

Abstract

'Banquets' provided by local government office were held around the inns where envoys stayed. Because artistes belonging to 'Gyobang, the training institution for Gisaeng' participated in performance at the banquets, if we examine the record of envoys' visit to Japan, we can see the performance culture at the regions of Pyungan-do and Gyeongsang-do from Euiju and Hanyang to Busan at the time of envoys' visit to Japan immediately after construction of Joseon to modern times. For 500 years from its construction to the 19th century, Joseon experienced the era of stability and peace and also the disturbances of war and international turbulent period by means of transition from Myung to Cheong. If we examine changes of local performance culture and altered mental state of the recorder who watched and recorded them with such background, we would be able to understand cultural aspects of Joseon period more exactly. Before the disturbances of war, there weren't many records of envoys' visit to Japan recording banquets in detail. And it was from the later period of the 17th century that banquets were recorded specifically and in detail. With development of the cities in Seoul and districts from that time, on the basis of economic power, desire for new music and culture also increased. As the result, in the 19th century, the tendency of professionalism in the performers became to be conspicuous. In this period, as the range of users of instrumental music was extended to people in middle class and Gisaeng as the main performers of banquets participated in entertainment spots, the performance culture was more actively progressed. Although the researcher can't decide cultural changes century by century, in this study the researcher examines them in four periods distinctively.
