Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between the coachs' autonomy- supportive coaching style, controlling coaching style and athletes prosocial, antisocial behavior, and whether these relationships are mediated by moral disengagement. Participants were 252 high school and middle school Taekwondo players who participated in The 10th Peace National Taekwondo Championship. Participants completed questionnaires assessing demographics, coaching style, moral behavior, and moral disengagement. The major findings were as follows. First, the controlling coaching style was positive associated with antisocial behavior toward opponents, and this relationship was partially mediated by moral disengagement(distortion of consequences and dehumanization) Second, controlling coaching style had significant positive on anti-social behavior toward team-mate, whereas there was no indirect effect by the moral disengagement. On the other hand, autonomy-supportive coaching style was significant negative effect on anti-social behavior toward team-mate, but there was no indirect effect by the moral disengagement. Third, controlling coaching style was unrelated to prosocial social behavior toward the opponent/teammate, and autonomy-supportive coaching style was positively related to prosocial social behavior toward team-mate, but there was no indirect effect by the moral disengagement.
