Abstract
The purpose of this study is to delineate the structure of Enlightenment in Kumdo. The purpose of Enlightenment in Kumdo is the unit of mind and body and the completion of character. But its concrete methodology did not present in what Enlightenment is, only suggested the teleological meanings and tautology. This incurred the deficiency of theoretical foundation directing the philosophy of Kumdo and not satisfied the practical method of it. As one of solutions, I seek to explain the structure of Enlightenment in Kumdo by phenomenological approach. Phenomenological method is practical process and theoretical aggregation representing the essence which has "to the thing themselves". Phenomenological method is meaningful to realize the Enlightenment by which cultivation of Kumdo seeks its essence. The structure of Enlightenment in Kumdo based on phenomenological method will be useful, rigorous, and theoretical adequacy. And fulfill the necessity of practical method. Especially the meanings of epoche and reduction have the methodological meaning to understand the conscious Enlightenment. As the attitude of personal self applies to the life-world in genetic phenomenology, which is one of methods to build the philosophy of Kumdo. To embody the Enlightenment of Kumdo is the result of conscious operation. But consciousness is to presuppose the material body. Therefore we need to explain the body's role. The departure of Enlightenment in body is to explain the meaning of the transcendental body. Transcendental-self having body is in the charge of the role of sensuous consciousness and volitional role in practical behavior. The body of Kumdo discipline has basically kinesthesia, which describes the roles that are unconscious behavior and passive meaning of sensation and positive will, which are the departure of enlightenment. Also, body is meaning of inter-subjectivity to personal integration in the social relation. On basing the capabilities of body, I will suggest two directions. One verifies the meanings of experiencing the unification of mind and body and Enlightenment through the process of Kumdo cultivation based on pure-self. The other certifies the completion of persona-self and meaning of Enlightenment get the validity as the theoretical grounds and practical methods in life-world by the Kumdo cultivation. The former is a process of kkaechim (breakenness), the latter is a pocess of ttaeum (practice). There are not procedural priority in the kkaechim and ttaeum. Kkaechim has to ttaeum, simultaneously ttaeum has to kkaechim. These show to be applied as the nesting principle each other. To explain the structure of Enlightenment in Kumdo by kkaechim and ttaeum, they will contribute to establishment of the Kumdo's study as theoretical basis. This is a different with the theoretical approach showing in sports in the Western.
