Abstract
The purpose of this study was to provide basic data for the prevention and management of athlete injuries by examining the injury-related data of grappling athletes. An online survey was conducted on 1,008 judo and wrestlers registered in Korean Sports & Olympic Committee and Sports Association. Stata/SE version 17.0 was used to perform descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, chi-squared test. Frequencies of injury sites were significantly different by gender and age, with no significant difference by sport. The incidence of injuries in men and women was 1.18 and 1.93, respectively (p< .05). In elementary school and college, there were 0.50 and 1.84 cases, respectively (p< .05). In addition, the injury rate of judo was 1.09 and wrestling was 1.72, indicating a difference according to the sport type (p< .05). The type of damage according to the injury site, the most common type of injury was facial skin hemorrhage 38 cases (17.6%) on the head and lumbar spondylopathy 25 cases (24.0%) on the trunk. Also, upper extremities and lower extremities, inflammation of the shoulder muscle and sprain or rupture of the knee ligament were the most common in 30 cases (6%) and 44 cases (10.3%), respectively. The internal cause of the upper extremity, which is the most frequent injury site, was 42 cases (35.6%), and the external cause was 69 cases (81.2%) of the injury caused by the opponent. In addition, Upper extremity injury was the most frequent injury causing training interruption for more than 1 month with 63 cases (37.3%). The results of this study provide the basic data that can be used for the prevention and management of athlete injuries in judo and wrestlers.
