Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examining the injury and sports safety awareness of recreational combat sports players. Using the data from the 2019 Sports Safety Accident Survey, 899 people in combat sports players (boxing, hapkido, judo, ssireum, taekwondo, wrestling, wushu) who responded to the survey were selected as study participants. The frequency, cause, and type of injuries were analyzed by dividing them into striking and grappling. and Chi-square analysis were performed to analyze the differences in sports safety and perceptions according to sex. The most frequent responses among the frequency of injuries and direct reasons for injuries were the lower limbs and excessive movements regardless of sports type, sex, or age. As for the type of injury, sprains were the most frequent with 293 cases (43.0%), followed by bruises with 130 cases (23.3%) and fractures with 51 cases (9.2%). In addition, awareness of sports safety and awareness by sex showed statistically significant differences. This study suggests the need for sports injury prevention education for combat sports players. Based on the results, it can be used as basic data for the development of an injury prevention program for recreational sports players.
