초록
Taking the family systems perspective, this paper proposes an inclusive model of parenting as a whole that includes mothering, fathering, and coparenting and provides a justification for this model through comprehensive literature review. This model also takes into account the influence of marital relationship on parenting and child outcomes to fully understand the dynamics of relationships among parents and a child. It pays equal attention to mothering, fathering, and coparenting and highlights the unique influence of each dimension of parenting on socio-emotional development in infants and toddlers. This model may allow us to move the research attention from the effect of a dyadic parent-child relationship on child outcomes to the effect of a triadic parents-child relationship on child outcome, which involves more complex dynamics of exchanges in the family context and reflects greater reality in a child’s life.
