아버지의 양육참여가 유아의 정서조절에 미치는 영향: 어머니 양육스트레스의 매개효과

초록

본 연구는 아버지의 양육참여, 어머니의 양육스트레스, 유아의 정서조절 간의 관계를 살펴보며, 아버지의 양육참여가 유아의 정서조절에 미치는 영향에서 어머니 양육스트레스의 매개효과를 검증하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 수도권 및 K광역시의 유치원 및 어린이집에 다니는 유아의 어머니를 대상으로 질문지법을 통해 자료를 수집하였고, 상관 및 회귀분석을 통하여 215명의 자료를 분석하였다. 주요연구결과를 살펴보면, 아버지의 양육참여는 유아의 정서통제와 정적 상관을 나타낸 반면, 유아의 불안정 및 부정적 정서와 어머니의 양육스트레스와는 부적 상관을 나타내었다. 아버지의 양육참여는 유아의 정서통제와 불안정 및 부정적 정서에 유의한 영향을 미쳤고, 어머니의 양육스트레스는 아버지의 여가활동 참여 및 생활지도 참여가 유아의 정서통제와 불안정 및 부정적 정서에 미치는 영향을 매개하였다. 이러한 결과를 통하여 아버지의 양육참여는 유아의 정서조절에 직접적 영향 뿐 아니라, 가족 체계적 관점에서 어머니를 통하여 간접적 영향을 미치는 것을 확인하였다. 본 연구결과는 어머니의 양육지원체계로 작용하는 아버지 역할의 중요성을 강조하는 한편, 아버지의 여가활동 참여 및 생활지도 참여가 정서적 어려움을 경험하는 유아 대상의 부모상담 및 부모교육 프로그램의 주요 구성요소로 활용될 수 있음을 시사한다.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the association of father involvement and maternal parenting stress with child’s emotion regulation. Furthermore, this study aimed to test the mediating role of maternal parenting stress in the relationship between father involvement and child’s emotion regulation. Two-hundred fifteen mothers of children aged 3 through 5 years who were attending child care centers and kindergartens completed questionnaires. Correlation and regression analyses showed father involvement positively correlated with emotion control and negatively correlated with anxiety/negative emotion and maternal parenting stress. The results showed that father involvement and maternal parenting stress significantly predicted child’s emotion regulation. Moreover, results indicated that the relationship between father involvement and child’s emotion regulation was mediated by maternal parenting stress. These findings highlight the important role of father involvement in parenting and suggest to utilize leisure engagement and guidance as main targets in parent education and intervention program for parents of children with emotional problems.
