환상동화의 몬스터 캐릭터는 그림책의 등장인물로 종종 사용되곤 한다. 이러한 몬스터는 환상동화의 가장 중요한 요소인 환상성과 극단적인 카테고리인 악, 추에 속함으로 강한 캐릭터성이 표현된다. 이 연구는 이론적 문헌을 통해 추출한 몬스터의 악, 추, 환상성을 기반으로 아동들의 관점에서 보여 지는 몬스터에의 악, 추, 환상성에 대한 조형적 특징에 대한 연구이다. 연구자는 캐릭터의 조형적 요소를 잣대로 각 몬스터 캐릭터 마다 조형 요소들을 추출한 후 아동을 대상으로 한 설문에 대입하여 아동들이 선호하는 혹은 선호하지 않는 몬스터 캐릭터의 조형적 특징을 분석하였다. 설문은 아동들이 ‘좋아하는/싫어하는’, ‘예쁘게 생긴/못생긴’, ‘재미있게 생긴/재미없게 생긴’ 몬스터 캐릭터를 선택하는 방법으로 설문이 이루어 졌으며 이는 이론적 배경에서 언급한 몬스터의 특성인 ‘악’, ‘추’, ‘환상성’을 토대로 하여 만들어진 문항들이다. 분석 결과 아동들은 과반수의 몬스터를 '싫어'하지만 몬스터에 대해 '흥미'는 느낀다는 것을 알 수 있다. 이는 환상동화의 등장인물로서 아동들에게 '흥미'롭게 교훈적 내용을 전달할 수 있음을 나타낸다. 또한 아동들은 과하게 사실적인 묘사나 어른의 신체, 추상적인 신체의 비율을 가진 몬스터에게서 부정적인 시각을 가진다. 이러한 결과로 그림책 일러스트레이터에게 몬스터 캐릭터를 표현하는데 있어 도움이 되고자 한다.
Abstract
The monster characters in the fantastic fairy tales are occasionally used in the picture books. The characteristics of monsters are described very strongly because they belong to fantastic nature, the core elements of fantastic fairy tales and wickedness & ugliness, the ultimate category. This study is on a formative distinguishing mark on fantastic nature of wickedness and ugliness on monsters from children's views based on them drawn out from theoretical document. This researcher extracted formative elements from each monster character and then analyzed formative distinguishing mark of the favoured/disfavoured monster. characters by children subject to a questionnaire. For the questionnaire, the children were set to criminate the monster characters they like/dislike, beautiful/ ugly/funny looking/ unfunny looking, all those items of the which were made on the basis of 'wickedness', 'ugliness', fantastic nature' of monster characteristics out of a theoretical background. The analysis showed that the children 'disliked' majority of monsters, it's for sure that they are 'interested' in them. The fact indicates that they deliver children educational contents 'in interesting way. Besides, children have negative view against excessively realistic description adults' bodies, and the monsters with bodies of abstract rate. For that reason, I hope to be helpful for the picture book illustrators in describing monster characters.
