『갈매기』의 트레플레프 인물 행동 구축 연구 : 두 가지 성격장애의 관점과 심리적 제스처 적용을 중심으로

『갈매기』에 나오는 등장인물들 중 트레플레프를 DSM-5(정신장애의 진단 및 통계 편람)에 근거한 두 가지성격장애의 관점으로 분석하고 미카엘 체홉(Michael Chekhov)의 심리적 제스처(Psychological Gesture)를적용하여 인물 행동 구축의 실제 과정을 연구하였다. 경계선 성격장애와 편집성 성격장애의 진단 기준과 특성들을 적용해 본 결과 트레플레프와 일치하는 속성들이 상당히 많았기 때문에 기존의 틀을 벗어난 독창적인 인물 분석이 가능할 것이라고 판단하였다. 위의 경계선 성격장애와 편집성 성격장애의 특성들을 중심으로 분석하여 ‘불안정한 자기 정체성’, ‘극도의 분노 표출과 빈번한 공격 행동’, ‘반복되는 자해 행동’, ‘의심하는 태도’, ‘신성불가침의 자기상’의 5가지 특성을 도출하였다. 경계선 성격장애와 편집성 성격장애의 다양한 특성들을 토대로 인물에 접근하여 기존의 단순한 인물 전사 구축 방법, 즉 대본에만 근거하여 배우가 상상해서 만드는 다소 주관적인 전사 구축 방식을 보완하고 더욱더 구체적이고 객관적인 인물 전사 구축 방법을 도출했다. 또한여기서 멈추지 않고 이러한 성격장애들을 갖고 있는 인물이 자기와 관련된 인물, 상황, 물건들을 마주하게 되면 발현되는 신체적 움직임을 분석·구축하기 위해 체홉의 연기 테크닉 중 하나인 심리적 제스처를 도입하였다. 심리적 제스처란 극중 인물의 심리, 욕구, 의지 충동 등을 강화시킬 수 있는 특정한 제스처를 만들어 체현(Embodiment)하고 그것을 마음속으로 반복해서 상상하여 극중 인물의 행동을 이끌어내는 배우의 신체적인수단이다. 앞서 주지한 성격장애들의 여러 가지 특성들에 심리적 제스처를 적용하여 ‘열등감의 폭발로 인한 폭력적 행동’, ‘극대화된 의심으로 인한 비정상적 행동’의 인물 행동 특성을 도출 후 신체화 과정을 진행하였다. 본 연구는 실제 프로덕션 과정을 통해 극중 인물 트레플레프를 DSM-5에 근거한 성격장애들의 관점에서 분석하고 심리적 제스처 적용을 통한 인물 행동 구축으로 연결하는, 하나의 실증적인 방법론을 제시하였다는 점에서 의의를 갖는다.
Abstract
This study analyzed Treplev of 『The Sea gull』 in terms of personality disorders based on DSM-5, and constructed personality behavior through Michael Chekhov’s Psychological Gesture analysis. As a result of applying the diagnostic criteria, characteristics of borderline personality disorder and paranoid personality disorder, it was found that there were a lot of matches with Treplev, and that unique character analysis would be possible beyond existing framework. Based on the characteristics of borderline personality disorder and paranoid personality disorder, the five characteristics of insecure identity, frequent anger expression and aggressive behavior, repetitive self-injurious behavior, suspicious attitude and the inviolable self image were found. Based on the various characteristics of borderline personality disorder and paranoid personality disorder, I approached the character supplementing the existing simple character construction method, i.e. instead of subjective pre-history building method that the actor imagined based on script alone, but derived more specific and objective character pre-history construction method. In addition, I introduced ‘psychological gesture’, one of Michael Chekhov’s acting techniques, to analyze and construct the physical movements which can occur when a person suffer from personality disorder encounters character, when situations and objects relate to him. Based on various characteristics of personality disorders as mentioned above through psychological gestures, I constructed the character behavior of Traplev through ‘violent behavior due to inferiority’ and ‘abnormal behavior due to suspicion’. Therefore, this study suggests a practical methodology for analyzing and constructing a character who has a large number of mental injuries in various aspects.
