Abstract
This study is a literature review that explores the concept and direction of early childhood cultural arts education and analyzes the national-level education and childcare curricula as well as policy trends. To achieve this, the study examines the 2019 revised Nuri Curriculum and the Standard Childcare Curriculum, including their official documents and guidelines, along with policy materials related to cultural arts education and academic research on early childhood cultural arts education. The findings indicate that artistic experiences in early childhood play a crucial role beyond simple activities, fostering holistic development, creativity, and sensitivity in young children. Furthermore, national curricula emphasize the importance of artistic experiences. The study also discusses that for cultural arts education to be effective, it must not be confined solely to the curriculum but should be naturally integrated into children's daily lives. However, compared to cultural arts education programs in primary and secondary schools, early childhood cultural arts education shows significant differ- ences in scale, budget, and accessibility, with regional disparities also evident. In particular, collabo- ration between early childhood teachers and cultural arts educators has been gradually decreasing, and systematic support remains insufficient. Therefore, the development of a curriculum that can be effectively implemented in educational settings and the establishment of institutional frameworks to strengthen collaboration between teachers and cultural arts professionals are essential. Additionally, fostering professional expertise and developing diverse programs are critical for promoting autono- mous exploration and creative expression in young children. Based on these discussions, this study presents a direction for the advancement of early childhood cultural arts education and highlights the need for further research in this field.
