4명의 초등교사를 통해 살펴 본 교실현장에서의 반창의성 편향

초록

본 연구의 목적은 창의성이 가장 강조되고 있는 초등학교 현장에서 실제로 창의성이 어떻게 인식되고 있으며 반창의성 편향의 사례들이 구체적으로 어떻게 나타나고 있는지를 탐색하는 것이다. 이를 위해 초등학교 교사이자 초등 독서 연구회 회원 4명이 6개월에 걸쳐 개인 평균 3회의 일대일 심층인터뷰에 참여하였으며 총 12시간(720분)의 인터뷰 자료가 전사되었다. 본 연구의 주요 결과는 다음과 같다. 본 연구에 참여한 교사 4인의 반창의성 편향은 크게 두 범주, ‘교실 내 요인’과 ‘교실 외적 요인’으로 구분되었다. 교실 내 요인에는 ‘교실에서 지나치게 강조되는 규칙’과 ‘성적’, ‘과도한 수업량’, ‘질문에 대한 모순’ 등 4개의 하위 범주가 도출되었다. 교실 외적요인에는 어찌 보면 다소 한국적 교육문화 특성일 수 있는 ‘학부모 민원’과 ‘동 학년 초등 교직 문화’가 제안되었으며 더불어 최근 사회적으로 많이 이슈가 되고 있는 ‘학교폭력근절대책’ 등이 어떻게 초등학교의 창의문화에 영향을 미치는가가 외적요인의 하위범주로 제기되었다. 본 연구를 통해 창의성에 대한 교사들의 모순적 태도를 확인할 수 있었으며, 본 연구 결과의 함의가 초등 교실 현장에서의 창의인재 육성 및 창의문화 풍토 조성이라는 현실적 과제와 연관하여 논의되었다.

Abstract

Creativity has been a victim of our double standard. This research reveals the truth about how creativity is really conceived in elementary schools where creativity education is said to be prioritized. Four elementary school teachers participated in the research as subjects. The main results are as follows. Cases of anti-creativity biases perceived by the teachers were categorized into 7 main themes in 2 sections which are internal and external related factors of classroom. In the internal related category, four themes were derived. Those four themes were too much emphasized rules and grades, excessive amount of class work, and inadequate responses to the questions. And related to the external category, three themes, which were parental complaints, teachers’ culture, and adverse effects of school violence prevention plans, were discussed in depth. This research has raised awareness of teachers' contradicting attitude towards creativity. Implications of this study were discussed in conjunction with the challenges of constructing creative teaching and learning environment at the elementary schools.
