칸트의 철학 텍스트에서 비장애중심주의적인 요소를 찾아내어 분석하는 일은, 우리 사회의 비장애중심주의의 개념과 작동 양상을 탐색하여 장애운동 논의로 연결하는 발본적인 작업이 될 수 있다. 칸트 철학에서 ‘인간이란 무엇인가’라는 질문은, 문헌상으로는 가장 나중에 던져진 것이긴 하지만 초기 논의와 이후 과정을 살펴볼 때 칸트 철학의 귀결이라는 점이 확인된다. 칸트는 인식의 선험적 요소인 이성에 결함이 있다고 판단되는 특정 인간을 난외(magins)의 영역으로 밀어낸다. 정신장애인에 대한 분류와 명명, 구성원으로서의 권리제한 명시, 감각에 층위를 매김으로써 특정 장애인을 의사소통이 불가능한 대상으로 규정하는 등을 내용으로 하는 칸트의 저술을 비장애중심주의가 작동한 결과로 본다. 장애에 관한 한 칸트와 다른 입장을 보인 데카르트와, 각을 세워 그를 비판했던 푸코의 논의를 첨하여 살펴봄으로써, 자칫 당연하거나 우연적인 사안으로 치부될 수 있는 장애인 배제에 대한 원인을 명확히 하고, 비장애중심주의를 해체할 힘의 근원을 모색한다. 그럼에도 불구하고 그 동력이 칸트의 철학 개념 안에 있음을 알려주는 사람은 푸코이다.
Abstract
Analysing the elements of ableism in Kant’s philosophy texts is a radical work that searches the conception of ableism in our society and engage in a discourse of the disablement movement. In Kant’s philosophy, the question ‘what is the human’ confirms that it was the conclusion of his philosophy, considering the early stages of the discussions and the subsequent processes, even though it was the Kant’s final diplomatic inquiry. Kant placed the certain humankind who has the deficiency of rationality, the transcendental element of cognition, into the realm of margins. Kant’s writing, involving the classification, naming, notification of restriction of right as social member, and defining particular disabilities as incommunicable objects by classifying the sense, lead to the consequence of ableism. The article finds the origins of the power to clarify the reason of the elimination of people who have ablement, which could be considered reasonable or casual matters, seek to deconstruct ableism, by achieving of Descartes, who held a different perspective on disablity, and Foucault, who criticized Kant. Foucault was the one who observed that the power is inherent in Kant’s philosophical conception.
