Abstract
This study is an experiential study on the challenging behaviors experienced by social workers who support people with developmental disabilities in adults, and aims to find a point of discussion on welfare for the disabled that can support both. Therefore, this study selected 10 social workers with more than three years of experience in providing services for people with developmental disabilities in adults and analyzed them using the grounded theory method of Strauss and Corbin (1998). As a result of the analysis, 14 categories were proposed: "deficient desire," "influence of surrounding environment," "negative psychological mechanism that gradually amplifies," "internal conflict," "automatic reflex response," "self-reproach for immature coping," "active attitude and effort to understand people with developmental disabilities more deeply," "conflict situations given by the surrounding system," "reasons for intention to change jobs," "source of support and motivation," "a wider understanding of the developmentally disabled," "‘I’ who grows together with competence and reflection," "the importance of active support and support at the institutional level," and "the need for support at the institutional level" were proposed. Based on the above research results, this study suggested several practical and policy discussions to support and support people with developmental disabilities in adulthood and social workers who provide care services to them.
