Abstract

This The copyright ownership and value judgment of the last forty chapters of “Dream of Red Mansions” have always been a controversial part in the study of “Dream of Red Mansions”. Some scholars judge that the last forty chapters were not written by Cao Xueqin from the perspective of tragic theme and plot continuation, but this judgment is suspected of staying on the surface. Using the mythological archetype theory to analyze the deep structure of “Dream of Red Mansions”, it will be found that the continuation of the last forty chapters and the first eighty chapters has reached the level of seamless integration. From the perspective of mythology, the structure of “Dream of Red Mansions” can be regarded as a positive arc from myth to reality, that is, from “stone” to “Baoyu”, and a reverse arc from reality back to myth, that is, from “Baoyu” to “stone”. These two arcs, one positive and one negative, constitute the circular archetypal structure of “Dream of Red Mansions” in binary opposition.
