Abstract
Q is regarded as a heretical discourse in sociological and ideological perspectives. By implication, heretical discourse is characterized as a subversive quality of symbolic forms and a di-vision (i.e., an alternative vision or program) in society. One of the more striking features of Q is the Q group's apparent creation of a social and rhetorical space in which to critique the symbolic forms of the dominant culture and dominant cultural rhetoric of the Q group's opponents in Galilee and to challenge the arbitrariness of these forms. Q group protests or critiques the domination of advantaged groups and articulates an alternative vision or social program for Israelite society. Q group utilizes three major symbolic forms, the kingdom of God, discipleship, and prophet. Q group draws upon these symbolic forms to justify the group's existence and interpret (and critique) its context and surroundings. To a great extent, leadership and authority were the bases of the issues of conflict between Q group and their opponents. The theological vision of the kingdom of God in Q envisages a renewal of Israel characterized by the social and bodily restoration in a prophetic tradition of Israel. It envisages a new vision of the restoration of human dignity by challenging the accepted vision of social structure, doxa. Therefore, Q promises eschatological reversal to those "underprivileged" in its socio-economic situation of Palestine in the early first century C.E. Q coined, in Mack's terms, an "enculturating mythology" to cope with new circumstances in the interest of compelling social visions.
