Abstract
This study explores how the buffering effect of ESG, which is expected to be exhibited in crises, depends on the company’s crisis response strategies(time and type). Through experiments, it is confirmed that even for ESG excellent companies, delayed response to crisis lowers the corporate attitude compared to immediate response. The delayed response negatively affects the perception of ESG authenticity as well as attitudes toward excellent ESG companies, which indirectly lowers corporate attitude. If ESG companies accept their responsibility for the crisis, they could reduce the negative impact of delayed response on attitudes.
