차라투스트라의 ‘베푸는 덕’과 ‘가르침의 선사’의 의미 탐색

이 글에서 연구자는 『차라투스트라는 이렇게 말했다』에서 나타난 ‘베푸는 덕’의 의미를 밝히고, 베풂을 ‘가르침’으로 실천했던 차라투스트라의 삶을 추적하여 가르침을 선물로 베푸는 것, 다시 말해 ‘가르침의 선사’의 의미를 탐색하였다. 이 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 베푸는 덕이란 어떤 특정한 덕목이 아니라 모종의 덕을 창조하는 자들의 자기 극복과 베풀려는 의지, 베풀 수 있는 창조적 원동력을 강조하는 개념이다. 또한 베푸는 자는 몸의 상승 의지인 육욕, 강한 몸의 자기 희열 상태인 이기심, 상승된 몸의 하강 의지이자 수여 의지인 지배욕을 그 특성으로 갖는다. 둘째, 베풂을 ‘가르침의 선사’로 실천한 차라투스트라의 삶은 자기 사상을 창조하는 ‘배움-고독’과 그 사상을 사람들에게 펼치는 ‘가르침-베풂’ 두 계열의 차이적 반복으로 직조되었다. 셋째, 차라투스트라적 의미의 ‘가르침의 선사’란 힘에의 의지를 증강시킨 강하고 고귀한 자가 자신의 사상을 누군가에게 베풂으로써 실현하는 자기 긍지의 자연스러운 표출이다. 동시에 그 수혜를 받는 자로 하여금 자기 극복과 덕의 창조를 실천케 함으로써 베푸는 자 자신과 동등한 우월성을 지닌 강자로 육성시키는 활동이기도 하다. 여기서 가르침의 선사를 받는 자는 끊임없이 자기를 넘어서고 사상(덕)을 창조함으로써 더 높은 실존으로 거듭나게 되는 바로 그러한 ‘선물’을 증여받게 된다.
Abstract
In this article, the researchers attempt to clarify the meaning of ‘giving virtue’ as presented in Thus Spoke Zarathustra. We also analyze the life of Zarathustra dedicated to practicing to give through teaching in order to explore the meaning of teaching as a gift-giving activity. The results of this study are as follows. First, the giving virtue is a virtue that uses the rise of will to power as an indicator of superiority, which emphasizes the self-overcoming, the willingness to give, and the ability of those who create virtues. In addition, the person who uses the gift-giving virtue is characterized by three different kinds of virtues such as voluptuousness, selfishness, and passion for power. Second, the life of Zarathustra, who practiced teaching as gift-giving can be interpreted as having been woven by differential repetition of the ‘learning/solitude-line’ and the ‘teaching/giving virtue-line’. Third, Zarathustra's teaching as gift-giving implies that teaching as a gift-giving activity tends to be a natural display of one's own self-esteem realized by a strong, noble, and healthy self-love and that the recipient of the gift tends to increase his/her power and to overcome him/herself, thereby fostering him/her to be an incessantly self-overcoming person.
