청소년이 인식한 사회적 지지와 이원적 자기존중감이 진로미결정에 미치는 영향: 약한 연결망의 조절효과를 중심으로

The Effect of Social Support and Self-esteem on Adolescents’ Career Indecision: Focusing on the Moderating Effect of Weak Ties

초록

배경: 청소년은 사회적 관계와 역할 속에서 자신의 능력과 흥미를 확인하고, 일에 대한 가치ㆍ흥미ㆍ태도를 형성한다. 또한 삶의 과정에서 경험한 자신의 독특성과 스스로에 대한 견해와 평가로 자기개념과 자기존중감을 발달시킨다. 이처럼 사회적 지지와 자기존중감은 진로발달과 관련이 있지만, 청소년을 둘러싼 약한 연결망에 따라 그 관계는 달라질 수 있다. 목적: 이 연구의 목적은 청소년의 사회적 지지와 이원적 자기존중감이 진로미결정에 미치는 영향과 약한 연결망의 조절효과를 탐색하는 데 있었다. 방법: 한국청소년정책연구원이 2021년에 실시한 『10대 청소년의 정신건강 실태조사』의 데이터를 활용하였으며, 4,333명의 자료가 분석에 포함되었다. 변인들 간의 관계를 보다 정확하게 분석하기 위하여, 성별, 다문화가정, 가정의 경제적 수준, 아버지와 어머니의 학력, 학교급, 학업성적을 통제하였다. 결과: 첫째, 사회적 지지는 청소년의 진로미결정과 관련이 있었다. 부모지지와 교사지지를 높게 인식한 청소년일수록 진로미결정 수준이 낮았지만 친구지지를 높게 인식한 청소년은 진로미결정 수준이 높았다. 둘째, 부정적 자기존중감을 높게 인식한 청소년일수록 진로미결정의 수준이 높았으나 긍정적 자기존중감과 진로미결정 간의 관계는 유의하게 나타나지 않았다. 셋째, 청소년이 인식한 친구지지와 진로미결정 간의 관계, 긍정적 자기존중감과 진로미결정 간의 관계를 약한 연결망이 조절하는 것으로 나타났다. 시사점: 청소년의 진로발달을 위해 다양한 진로 정보와 기회를 접할 수 있는 지역사회를 중심으로 한 약한 연결망의 기능과 가능성에 주목해야 한다.

Abstract

Background: Adolescents identify their abilities and interests and form their values, interests, and attitudes towards work through social relationships and roles. Additionally, they develop their self-concept and self-esteem through their unique experiences in life and their own views and evaluations of themselves. Thus, social support and self-esteem are related to career development, but their relationship can vary depending on the weak ties surrounding the adolescent. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of social support and self-esteem on adolescents’ career indecision and the moderating effect of weak ties. Methodology: This study used data from the “Survey on the Mental Health of Teenagers” conducted by the National Youth Policy Institute in 2021. In order to more accurately analyze the relationship between variables, gender, multicultural family, economic level of the family, father and mother’s educational level, school level, and academic achievement were controlled. Findings: First, social support was related to adolescents’ career indecision. Adolescents who perceived higher levels of parental and teacher support had lower levels of career indecision, but adolescents who perceived higher levels of friend support had higher levels of career indecision. Second, adolescents with high levels of negative self-esteem showed more career indecision, while no significant relationship was found between positive self-esteem and career indecision. Third, it was found that weak ties moderate the relationship between adolescents’ perceived friend support and career indecision, as well as the relationship between positive self-esteem and career indecision. Conclusions: It is essential to focus on the function and potential of weak ties within the community in providing various career information and opportunities for the career development of adolescents.
