Abstract

The article on the Qin and Han Dynasties in <<Samguk yusa (Memorabilia of Three Kingdoms)>> contains an interesting story about 35 Geumiptaek. Geumiptaek literally means a wealthy mansion where the money goes into, and also refers to the family of the most powerful Jingol (true bone) class (an aristocratic rank). In general, the mansion has been regarded as an indication to show the status of the late Silla Dynasty. However, the mansion is concluded to be existed in the mid-8th century, the prime time of Silla after taking a closer look at the materials. However, the origin dates back to the Qin and Han Dynasties, which led to the late Silla Dynasty after numerical and structural changes. It is not just a simple error to list 39 mansions even though it says 35 Geumiptaeks, but it seems to be come from that the figure 35 was stuck to a certain time. It was the 8th century. The object particularly attracting attentions among Geumiptaeks is the name of the house called Jaemaejeongtaek. It has the annotation that the mansion is the head house of Kim Yu-sin. Jaemaejeongtaek was the house of the head family of Kim Yu-sin. Jaemaejeong means a well attracting fortune, and it functioned as a symbol of the family of Kim Yu-sin. The well in the house of Kim Yu-sin was famous for its beautiful style, being recognized as a source to provide power to keep the house of Kim Yu-sin as a Geumiptaek. There was Lady Jaemae in Jaemaejeongtaek, though. It was not clear who she was but it has long been vaguely recognized as the royal daughter of Kim Yu-sin. However, the analysis on relevant materials, Lady Jaemae was clearly the wife of Kim Yu-sin, Jiso. Jiso was the third daughter of King Taejong Muyeol and had marriage of convenience with Kim Yu-sin as a symbolic woman who tried to strictly keep the principles of the family. She was bestowed as ‘Lady (honorary title presented to ladies of the high aristocracy)’ and became the object of worship buried in a beautiful blue valley. Since she was the woman who represented the family with Kim Yu-sin, she was called Lady Jaemae, derived from the name of the house.
