실과를 통합한 초등 영어 수업에 나타난 교사와 학생의 의사소통성 분석

본 연구는 초등 영어 우수 수업으로 선정되어 교육포털사이트에 업로드되어 있는 수업 동영상을 전사하고, COLT 2부와 TALOS 저추론 분석법을 사용하여 실과와 통합된 초등 영어 수업에 나타난 교사와 학생의 의사소통성과 수업의 특징을 파악한 연구이다. 대구교육포털사이트에 우수 수업 동영상으로 업로드되어 있는 수업 동영상을 COLT(Communicative Orientation of Language Teaching)와 TALOS(Target Language Observation Scheme)를 활용하여 분석한 결과 단순 양적인 측면에서 보았을 때, 교사의 발언이 학생의 발언보다 많이 나왔지만, 그 내용이 문법이나 언어 형식에 대한 것이 아니라 학생들이 실제 Flea Market에서 물건을 사고팔 때 대화를 할 수 있게 하기 위한 질문이나 발화였다. 실제 학생들은 Flea Market에서 영어로 짧은 단어 이상 문장이나 담화 수준으로 발언을 하였으며 비교적 높은 예상불가 발화와 이전의 발화를 확장하는 식으로 발화를 지속해 나갔다는 점에서 이 수업은 의사소통 중심 수업이었다고 할 수 있겠다. 실과의 Flea Market이라는 활동성이 강한 활동을 영어 수업에 도입하여 학생들의 상호작용이 많은 수업이 이루어졌으며, 이는 수업 계획에서부터 교사와 학습자, 학습자와 학습자 사이에 언어적 상호작용이 활발히 일어나게 고안한다면 얼마든지 의사소통적인 수업이 가능함을 시사한다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the process and effectiveness of the content and language integration learning (CLIL) in elementary school English class in terms of communicative interactions. This paper hires the Communicative Orientation of Language Teaching (COLT) part B and Target Language Observation Scheme (TALOS) low-inference analysis instrument as an analytic method for and elementary English CLIL class. This research examines the language interaction patterns of teacher and learners, as well as the characteristics of their utterances in the class. A CLIL class is drawn from the pool of the class recorded and uploaded on the Daegu education portal site and analysed as to how the CLIL class contributes to the enhancement of communicative interactions among the teacher and students utilizing COLT Part B and TALOS. The findings are: Teacher’s utterances outnumber students’ but with a significantly high task communication ratio; teacher and students uttered primarily in English, a relatively high ratio of unpredictable transactional verbal interactions along with a high expansion ratio. The study concludes that the CLIL class help promote the communicative interactions among teacher and students. This implies that communicative class can be created if an English class integrates the content of other disciplines in such a way that it promotes authentic interactions among teacher and students based on the goal-oriented classroom task.
