최순실-박근혜 게이트는 정부를 포함한 공적 영역의 총체적 비정상성을 단적으로 드러내는 사건이다. 비선실세와 정부의 주요 인사들이 결탁해 국가를사유화하고 이를 통해 자신들의 정치적 권력과 경제적 이득을 극대화해 왔다. 박근혜 비밀정부 요원들은 국정농단, 부정부패, 정경유착이라는 한국 사회의 기득권 계급의 전형적인 연결 구조를 드러냈다. 이 논문은 정부와 공적 기관들이언론과 시민들을 대상으로 행하는 커뮤니케이션의 체계적 조작과 왜곡, 권력과기득권 계급과 결탁하거나 이들에게 튼튼한 방어 요새를 제공하는 퇴행적 미디어를 다룬다. 또 공공 커뮤니케이션의 체계적 왜곡과 변질된 미디어의 결탁 속에서 정부가 얼마나 무능력하고 위험한 상태로 전락할 수 있는지 살펴보았다. 이 논문은 이명박, 박근혜 두 정부 기간 동안에 더욱 심화된 반 민주주의적 정부와 권력, 정치적 두목과 부하라는 전 근대적 정치 행태, 이와 연관된 공공커뮤니케이션과 퇴행적 미디어에 대한 비판적 관찰과 논의를 통해 언론학의 성찰적 관여와 현실 참여의 지점들을 제안하고 있다.
Abstract
The purpose of this essay is to critically examine a series ofdisastrous events and political failures in South Korea; including therecent political scandal called, Park Geun-hye and Choi Soon-sil Gateand the impeachment of the president Park Geun-hye in March 2017,Sewol ferry accident in April 2014, the wake of the MERS in June2015, and also the Sinking of Cheonan Navy Ship in March 2010,the Four-river restoration project under the Lee Myung-bak governmentrespectively. These events clearly exemplified incapabilities andcorruption of the governments, as well as the structured anomaliesof public communication in South Korea. Thus, this essay raises criticalquestions and explores the possibilities of alternative policy measuresconcerning the crisis of politics and public communication. We suggesta feasible starting point for galvanizing sustainable public dialoguein conjunction with the role of journalism and communication studiesin this process in a self-reflexive way.
