이 글은 시작되기 전부터 격렬한 사회적, 생태적 논란을 일으켜온 “4대강 살리기 사업”을 계기로 살펴본, 오늘날 지배적인 자연관에 대한 비판적인 신학적 성찰이다. 과학기술의 발전으로 인하여 자연에 대한 인간의 개입, 곧 자연의 개발은 자연 생태계에 심각한 영향을 끼치게 되었다. 그리스도교의 관점에서, 자연 생태계는 하느님이 창조한 것이며, 생태문제의 근본 원인은 피조물인 인간과 자연 사이의 관계에 있다. 오늘날 인간과 자연의 관계의 형성에 기여한 주요 요인들로는 근대 이후 등장한 기계론적 세계관, 여기서 비롯되는 자연에 대한 인간중심의 도구적 관점, 과학적 낙관주의 등을 꼽을 수 있으며, 생태문제를 제대로 다루기 위해서는 이 요인들이 진지하게 고려되어야 한다. 그리스도교 전통의 하느님 중심의 세계관은 이 요인들을 효과적으로 다루면서, 오늘날 바람직한 인간과 자연의 관계의 기초를 제공해줄 것이다.
Abstract
This essay is a critical, theological reflection on a prevailing view of nature today, on the occasion of the “Four Major Rivers Restoration” which has instigated bitter social, ecological controversy even before it started. Due to the advance of natural science and technologies, human intervention in nature, i.e. the exploitation of nature, came to have grave impact on the natural ecology. From a Christian perspective, natural ecology is what God created, and a fundamental cause of ecological problems lies in the relationship between humans and nature, both of which are God's creatures. Major elements which have contributed to the formation of the current human relationship with nature are mechanistic worldview, anthropocentric, instrumental perspective on nature, and scientific optimism, all of which must seriously be considered in order to properly handle ecological issues. A theocentric worldview in the Christian tradition, while effectively managing these elements, will provide a foundation for a desirable relationship between humans and nature.
