Abstract
Such issues as distributive justice, the resolution of inequality and injustice in institutions, and the analysis of the relationship between poverty and the ecological crisis are urgent in our life today. They are discussed in our whole society. These discussions are actively being conducted in topics of justice, including categories of exchange, distribution, and judicial affairs. In this circumstance, Christianity should explore the following questions: How can Christianity’s response to the issue of justice be persuasive to people outside the Church? The objective of this project is to provide ideas about the possibility of Christian dialogue with secular theories on justice. Aquinas’ theory of justice has great implications for Christianity. Aquinas tried to address several important challenges that arose from two rival traditions: a re-emergent Aristotelianism and Augustinian Christianity. In this article, I will explore and analyze the way in which Aquinas synthesized a philosophical perspective and a theological one. For this, such topics as the virtue of justice, two main components of justice (equity; right and duty), three types of justice(communitive, distributive, and general), potential parts of justice, and common good (the objective of justice) are explored, analyzed, and assessed. In particular, Aquinas’ perspective of the common good as a goal of justice and his philosophical analyses of justice enable a Christian’s account of justice to engage in a dialogue with the public.
