본 연구는 시민들의 거주지에 대한 관심을 결정짓는 요인을 개인 차원과 지역차원 및 사회경제적 요인과 심리적 요인으로 구분하고, 각 요인들의 이론적 타당성을 검토했다. 부산과 인천지역의 시민을 대상으로 한 설문자료를 이용한분석 결과, 정치 전반에 대한 관심과 거주지만족도 등 개인 차원의 심리적 변수는 두 지역 모두에서 공통적으로 지역관심에 영향을 미쳤지만, 소득, 지역의존도, 원주민여부, 지역의 경제수준은 지역마다 상이한 영향력을 가지고 있었다. 특히, 서울집중성에 대한 의견은 인천에서만 유의미했는데, 인천시민 중 서울집중성을 심각하다고 느끼는 사람일수록 거주지에 대한 관심이 증가했다.
Abstract
Citizens’ interest in their residential community is crucial for the development of local politics. Despite its importance, little attention has been devoted to the role of citizens’ interest in their residence in Korea. To fill this gap, this paper analyzes what determines citizens’ interest in their residence, using socioeconomic factors and psychological factors both in individual levels and regional levels. Using public opinion survey conducted in Busan and Incheon, the empirical analysis displays that political interest and residential satisfaction positively influence citizens’ interest in their residence both in Busan and Incheon. However, other factors such as household income, education, job security, a moving experience, regional economic level and the opinion on Seoul centralization have different impacts on Busan and Incheon, respectively.
