초록

There are many reports to accelerate tooth movements in adult orthodontic treatments. Among these, an surgicalassissted orthodontic procedure using the Regional Acceleratory Phenomenon (RAP) receives attention. However, complications following mechanical bone resection are problematic. To overcome this problem, there was a report using decalcification technique with similar effect. Therefore, this study was designed to compare and observe histological effect on demineralized areas by acid after orthodontic movement. A total of eighteen white male rat (400 g average weight) is used. Test group was applied with dental etchant for one minute on the alveolar bone around maxillary first molar area, and washed with 0.9% saline. Control side received the same flap procedure. The site was exposed in the air without additional treatment (sham operation). The both first molars were moved to anterior teeth by closed coil spring (100 g force was applied). Six rats were sacrificed at 1 week, 2 weeks, and 4 weeks after the procedure. Non-decalcified and decalcified specimen were made, and analyzed with H&E stain. Decalcified area showed more bone resorption and less resorption on cementum the light microscope. However, there was not significant differences in tooth movement based on orthodontic forces. The short decalcification caused local bone resorption without significant effect on tooth movement. However, there were more cortical bone resorption on the decalcified area by dental etchant with new bone formation by the RAP.

Abstract

The short decalcification caused local bone resorption without significant effect on tooth movement. However, there were more cortical bone resorption on the decalcified area by dental etchant with new bone formation by the RAP.
