유기장은 놋쇠를 다루는 장인을 통칭하는 말이다. 선행연구에서 유기장들의 기술에 대해 정확하게 밝혀진바가 없다. 기술은 도구와 밀접한 관련이 있으며, 도구는 장인의 손과 같다. 때문에 의궤(儀軌) 속 유기장들의 소용도구를 통하여 그 기술을 파악하고자 하였다. 유기제작기술은 방짜기법과 주물사기법으로 나뉜다. 방짜기법의 주요도구로 사용되는 것은 모루, 풍로,망치, 집게 등이며, 주물사기법의 재료 및 도구는 갯토, 소금, 관솔, 등날판, 향남틀 등이 있다. 유기장으로파악되는 유장(鍮匠), 시장(匙匠), 주장(鑄匠), 소로장(小爐匠)을 주축으로 의궤의 소용도구를 살펴보면 기술의 추정이 가능하다. 의궤에 유장과 시장이 사용한 도구로 모루, 풍로, 망치, 집게 등이 기록되어 있는 것으로 보아 방짜기법을 구사하던 장인임을 알 수 있다. 유장의 제작기물은 주로 크기가 큰 기물인 놋쟁반,놋상, 놋소라 등이며, 시장은 놋숟가락을 만들었다. 한편 주장과 소로장이 사용한 재료와 도구를 통해 주물사기법으로 유기를 제작하던 장인임을 알 수 있다. 주장과 소로장은 활동범주와 제작공예품이 달랐다. 주장은 군기시(軍器寺)와 교서관(校書館)에 소속되어 병기나 금속활자를 제작하였다. 소로장은 도감(都監) 삼방(三房)에 속하여 왕실의 유기를 만드는 한편 편종 및 금속활자를 제작하는 등 주물유기를 다루는 영역이넓었다. 도감에서 유기장들의 협업은 공정에 따라 유기적으로 이루어졌다. 유기를 만들기 위해서는 금속을 녹이는 일이 우선되어야 한다. 권로장(權爐匠)은 소용 재료와 도구를 통하여 도가니를 만들었다는 것과 금속을녹이는 일을 하였다는 것이 밝혀졌다. 정련된 놋쇠를 받아 유장, 시장, 주장, 소로장 등이 유기를 제작하였다. 이후 권로장이 마조기를 통하여 가질을 하였다. 이는 유기장들의 협업이 작업성에 맞게 유동적이었다는점을 알려준다
Abstract
The Yugijang is a craftsman who deals with brass. In previous research, the techniques of theYugijang have not been clarified accurately. Technology is closely related to tools, and tools arelike the hands of craftsmen. Therefore, we tried to know the technology through the tools ofYugijang in Uigwe . Brassware production technology is divided into forging and casting. The main tools used inforging are the anvil, kitchen stove, hammer, and tongs. The materials and tools of mouldingsand casting are sea soil, salt, lightwood, Deungnalpan , and Hyangnamteul . It is possible toestimate the technology to review the tools used by Yujang , Sijang , Jujang , and Sorojang whoseem to be Yugijang . Based on the records, Yujang and Sijang used the tools anvil, kitchenstove, hammer, and tongs. We know that the craftsman used forging. The production of Yujangwas mainly brass trays, brass tables, brass jars, which were large in size, and Sijang made brassspoons. On the other hand, we know that Jujang and Sorojang were craftsmen who madebrassware using casting through materials and tools. Jujang and Sorojang were different fromother activity categories and crafts. Jujang belongs to Gungisi and Gyoseogwan , making metalweapons. Sorojang belongs to Dogam Sambang , with a wide range of subjects, producingmetal pyeonjong and making royal brassware. In the Dogam, the collaborations of the Yugijangs were done organically according to theprocess. To make brassware, melting metal was prioritized. The crucible was for the materialand tools of Gwollojang and melted metal. Yujang , Sijang , Jujang , Sorojang made brasswareusing refined brass. Then, Gwollojang would do the film stripping process to Majogi . Thissuggests that the collaboration of Yugijang emphasized flexibility based on a workableproductive environment.
