Abstract

In the past, ‘Ulsan Dutbeki’ dancing has been naturally transmitted by indigenous peopleof Ulsan , but nowadays, it is on the wane along with the decline of traditional customs dueto modern living conditions. In order to protect, preserve and succeed this dancing underunfriendly surroundings, this study drew key movements of the dancing, laying stress onprototypical perspective. The process and methods to do that were as follows. First, Baesdon ‘Dutbeki ’ performers' general perception of aesthetic movements in Gyeongsang-doarea, which has been seen from documents. Second, uncovered features of ‘Ulsan Dutbeki’through the traits and living conditions seen from history book of town called as ‘Hak-Sung’. Third, analyzed the dancing movements in documentary photography taken in Ulsan , 1936,which is under the Japanese Colonial Rule of Korea. Fourth, Added my own experiences at thescenes of folk festivals, and photos that show the people of Ulsan performing ‘Dutbeki’. Theaim of this study is to establish the foundation to succeed Ulsan Dutbeki as cultural heritage. This study presented the analysis on ‘Dutbeki’, which has been enjoyed and passed down byordinary people, and organized summary of key dancing movements drawn with prototypicalbase. Today, in the environment cultural heritage is dying away, this study put in a great deal ofefforts in this way, expecting to save and succeed it inside our daily cultural customs.
