Abstract
This study aims to discuss the unique law for the woman in Det 25:11-12 and reinterpret this drastic and barbaric law. In this paper, I would like to insist that the law’s purpose is different than its literal meaning. In order to prove my opinion, firstly, I compare the law with other similar ancient Near Eastern laws carefully. Secondly, I analyze the literary structure of Deut 25. Finally, I search the usages of several problematic words in Deut 25:11-12. This study will reveal that the law seemed to help prevent such an incident happening at that time and protect women who had no power in the society from this kind of incident.
