Abstract
Scholars agree that there are connections between the prayer of lament in Isaiah 63:7–64:11 and Isaiah 65–66 and that Isaiah 65–66 functions to some degree as a response to the prayer. However, there has been little consensus about whether Isaiah 65–66 as a whole or in part is a response to the prayer. Also, the nature of YHWH’s response contained in Isaiah 65–66 is debatable. This paper seeks to determine the scope of YHWH’s response in Isaiah 65–66 and examines the nature of this response to the preceding prayer. When all of Isaiah 65–66 is seen as YHWH’s response to the prayer, God’s response is both confronting and confirmative. Isaiah 65–66 functions as a final call for the rebellious to repent of their evil ways and to choose YHWH before their final judgment becomes reality.
