Abstract

Capstone Design is a project-based learning approach that enables students to apply their specialized knowledge to real-world problem-solving while fostering creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving skills, making it a crucial aspect of modern higher education. This study proposes a support strategy using ChatGPT to enhance learning outcomes in engineering Capstone Design courses. Based on five years of competition data, the performance was analyzed using five evaluation criteria: creativity and convergence, social contribution and commercialization potential, technicality and completeness, planning, and diligence and collaboration. The analysis identified difficulties faced by students during the Capstone Design process, particularly the lack of systematic support in planning during the initial stages of the projects. To address this, this study suggests specific measures utilizing ChatGPT to support idea generation, provide planning templates and feedback, and expand convergent thinking. This study presents a utilization plan for ChatGPT as a tool to maximize students' learning outcomes and facilitate creative and systematic project execution, with future research planned to comparatively analyze the practical effects of ChatGPT.
