초록
The purpose of this study seeks to analyze the Xinjiang problem comprehensively After the formation of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in 1955, China tried to distort the history of Xinjiang, aiming to integrate Xinjiang as a part of China. For the purpose, she pursued hard policies and soft policies toward Xinjiang. The separatist movement of Uygur began in 1920s under the influence of Pan-Turkism and Pan-Islamism. The invigoration of the separatist movement after 1955 originate from political, economical and religious reasons. The Chinese government reacts actively to the separatist movement in the region by using the military forces and establishing the multilateral Security Cooperation. In my opinion, the separatist movement in the region does not pose a serious threat to China's territorial integrity and social stability in Xinjiang. A breakup is unlikely because many Muslims in China back China's ethnic policies. China has the enough military power ti crush rebellions. Most countries would not sympathize with the separatists. Especially, most of the separatist groups for the liberation of Xinjiang are not getting along with each other very well. But in my opinion, as far as pan-Turkism and pan-Islamism influence is still behind the separatist movement in the region, sporadic violence and unrest may continue in Xinjiang.
Abstract
