대학생과 대학원생의 외국인 유학생에 대한 인식과 접촉 경험 간 관계: 대학 특성별 분석

초록

본 연구의 목적은 한국인 대학생과 대학원생의 외국인 유학생에 대한 인식을 분석하는 것으로, 외국인 유학생 인식과 접촉 경험 간 관계를 대학 특성별로 분석하였다. 구체적으로 대학 특성(대학 소재지, 규모, 설립 유형, 외국인 유학생 비율)별로 외국인 유학생에 대한 인식과 접촉 빈도 간 관계에서 접촉 평가의 조절효과를 분석하였다. 이를 위해 온라인 설문조사를 통해 전국 40개 대학 887명을 대상으로 자료를 수집하였다. 연구결과, 한국인 대학생 및 대학원생의 외국인 유학생에 대한 인식은 전반적으로 긍정적인 것으로 드러났다. 대학 특성에 따라서는 수도권 대학, 국공립 대학, 대형 대학, 그리고 외국인 유학생 비율이 5% 미만일 때는 접촉 빈도와 외국인 유학생에 대한 인식 간 관계에서 접촉평가의 조절효과가 통계적으로 유의하게 나타났다. 하지만, 지방 대학, 중소형 대학, 사립 대학, 그리고 외국인 유학생 비율이 5% 이상인 경우에는 조절효과가 통계적으로 유의하지 않았다. 이러한 연구 결과를 바탕으로 대학 환경에 따른 대학 국제화 관련 시사점을 제시하였다.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the perception of Korean undergraduate and graduate students toward international students. Specifically, we analyzed the moderating effect of contact valence on the relationship between perceptions and contact frequency by university characteristics. Data were collected from 887 students at 40 universities nationwide through an online survey. Results indicated that students generally held a positive perception toward international students. The moderating effect of contact valence was statistically significant in metropolitan universities, large universities, public universities, and those with less than 5% international students. However, it was insignificant in rural universities, small and medium-sized universities, private universities, and those with more than 5% international students. Based on these findings, implications for university internationalization strategies according to the university environment were discussed.
