이 연구는 21세기 지구화의 과정에서 중국인 동포 여성의 생존 회로가 ‘종로3가’와 결합하며 재구성되는 과정에 주목하였다. 첫째, 중국인 동포 여성들과 중·고령 성매매 장소인 종로3가의 마주침은 창발적 세계-만들기로 나아가는 과정이다. 이를 통해 1990년대 이후 중국과 한국을 주요 장소로 하는 돌봄 노동, 가족부양, 성매매 그리고 친밀성이 결합하는 생존 회로가 횡단-신체적으로 확장하며 새롭게 구축된다. 둘째, 종로3가의 성적 서비스는 이주 여성들에게 가족부양과 노후 준비 그리고 ‘코리언 드림’을 실현할 가성비 좋은 일자리이자, 강도 높은 단속과 폭력, 갈등 그리고 성적, 감정적 돌봄을 수행하는 ‘위험한 노동’이다. 셋째, 이 연구 결과는 자연적이고 정상적인 섹슈얼리티와 비자연적, 일탈적 섹슈얼리티를 대립시키는 한국 사회의 지배적 규범을 넘어서며, ‘박카스 아줌마’라는 기존의 블랙박스를 해체한다.
Abstract
This study examines how the survival circuits of Chinese Korean women are reconstructed in conjunction with Jongno 3-ga amid globalization in the 21st century. Firstly, the encounter between Chinese Korean women and Jongno 3-ga, a place for middle-aged and elderly prostitution, represents a process of emergent world-making. Through this interaction, a survival circuit combining care labor, family support, prostitution, and sexuality — which has been centered on China and South Korea since the 1990s — is trans-corporeally expanded and reconfigured. Secondly, the sexual services in Jongno 3-ga serve as a cost-effective means for migrant women to support their families, prepare for old age, and pursue the “Korean Dream,” while simultaneously constituting a “dangerous job” characterized by frequent crackdowns, violence, conflict, as well as sexual and emotional caregiving. Thirdly, the findings of this study challenge the dominant norms of Korean society that juxtapose natural and normal sexuality with unnatural and deviant sexuality, dismantling the existing black box of the “Bacchus lady.”
