이 논문은 불법화된 성서비스 노동을 하는 여성들이 직면하는 갈등과 모순, 선택이라는 내적 과정에 접근해보고자 한다. 즉, 우리사회에 불법화정책과 사회적 낙인으로 매춘을 비롯한 성서비스를 금지하는 강력한 기제가 있는데도, 성서비스에 종사하는 여성들은 구체적으로 어떤 맥락에서 그 일을 하게 되는 것일까? 또 이 여성들의 성서비스 노동 경험은 그들의 다른 생애 경험과 어떤 관계에 놓여 있는가? 또 성서비스를 하는 여성의 입장에서 볼 때, 불법화정책은 무엇을 의미하며 구체적으로 어떤 영향을 미치는가? 이 논문에서 구술자들은 생존과 자립을 위해 고군분투하는 과정에서 불법적이고 낙인찍힌 행위인 성서비스를 하며 ‘불법’이자 ‘사회적 죽음’이라는 경계를 넘는 불안을 경험하는 것으로 나타난다. 또 이들은 신자유주의 질서에서 돈과 자존심, 규범이나 도덕 등 여러 경계‘들’ 사이에서 갈등하고 협상하며 때때로 경계 넘기를 선택하며 살아가고 있음을 알 수 있다.
Abstract
This study analyzes the stories of the women in their twenties or thirties, who have experienced sexual service labor including ‘prostitution’ in Korean society where the neoliberal order has been growing since the end 0f 1990’s. According to the life stories of the ‘prostitutes’ interviewed for the research, this study try to illuminate their sexual service experience in another point of view in as much as their ‘prostitution’ might be a part of their life experiences. They experienced the sexual service labor crossing the boundary or border between legal labor and illegal labor. Then, they seemed to feel the border as ‘social death’. At the same, they experienced the dissolution of the border because the border is not firm but ‘fluid’ and not a boundary but many ‘boundaries’ in reality. They have been negotiating with a lot of conflicts and boundaries, and surviving crossing the boundaries.
