본 연구는 한국에서 지역사회 통번역사의 개념을 재정립하고, 이들의 역할과 중요성에 대한 심층적인 고찰을 연구의 목적으로 한다. 그리고 변화하는 사회적 요구에 대응하기 위한 한국어 통번역 교육의 필요성을 중심으로, 통번역사의 전문성 강화 방안을 탐색하고자 하였다. 이를 위한 양적·질적 연구를 통해, 한국 내 지역사회 통번역사를 위한 교육과정 및 능력 인증 체계의 현황을 분석하였으며, 베트남어를 모국어로 사용하는 통번역사를 대상으로 설문조사와 FGI를 실시하였다. 조사 결과, 지역사회 통번역사는 여전히 체계적인 교육과정을 이수하지 못하고 있으며, 통번역 능력 평가에서도 기대한 성과를 얻지 못하는 것으로 나타났다. 이에 본 연구에서는 지역사회 통번역사의 개념 정립부터 교육과 평가 체계, 역량 강화 방안까지 포괄적으로 제안하였다. 특히, AI 통번역 기술의 발전에 발맞추어, 한국어 통번역 교육과정에 AI 활용 교육을 포함함으로써 실무 역량과 전문성을 제고할 수 있는 방안을 함께 살피고 있다. 본 연구는 베트남어권을 중심으로 진행되었으나, 다양한 언어권 통번역사들에게도 적용 가능한 교육적 시사점을 제공하며, 향후 연구에서는 보다 구체적인 교육 운영 모델과 실천 전략을 제시하고자 한다.
Abstract
This study redefines the concept of community interpreter translators in Korea and explores their roles amid increasing societal demands for Korean translation and interpreting (T&I) education. Using a mixed-methods approach, it examines current curricula and certification systems and includes interviews with native Vietnamese-speaking interpreters. The findings reveal a lack of structured training and generally low performance in competence assessments. To address these issues, the study proposes a comprehensive framework that includes conceptual clarification, curriculum development, evaluation methods, and capacity building. Additionally, it emphasizes the importance of integrating AI-related training to enhance practical skills. Although the focus is on the Vietnamese-speaking community, the findings offer valuable insights applicable to interpreters from various language backgrounds.
