초록
Polyolefin composites containing metal hydroxide are an eco-friendly method to enhance flameretardancy. However, improving flame retardancy requires high content of metal hydroxide, which significantlydeteriorates the mechanical properties of the composites. To solve this problem, in this study, we developedpolyolefin/metal hydroxide composites with improved strength, flexibility and heat resistance in high temperatureenvironments by using electron beam irradiation crosslinking technology and thermoplastic elastomer. Thegel content, mechanical properties, thermal aging, thermal stability, and flame retardancy of the compositeswere analyzed. As a result, the mechanical properties, heat shrinkage, and thermal aging performance weresignificantly improved while maintaining excellent flame retardancy due to electron beam-induced crosslinkingand the incorporation of polystyrene-b-poly(ethylene-ran-butylene)-b-polystyrene as a thermoplastic elastomer. This improvement is attributed to the three-dimensional network structure formed by the electron beam-inducedcrosslinking, with the styrene segment of polystyrene-b-poly(ethylene-ran-butylene)-b-polystyrene enhancing therigidity of the composite, while the ethylene-butylene segment contributes flexibility. Based on these results, theflame-retardant polyolefin composites prepared in this study are expected to be an effective and valuable material forindustrial applications.
