Abstract
Background: This study is based on the recognition that while various studies targeting youth are being reported in academia, research on the perceptions and opinions of youth who are directly involved in the field is limited. In other words, the approach to studies in which youth participate actively is rarely pursued. Therefore, we started from the problem of the need to explore appropriate methodologies for collecting diverse field opinions and producing information to complement this situation. Purpose: Based on this problem recognition, this study introduces the GCM research methodology, which that can capture the voices of youth in the field while bridging theory and practice, and explores the applicability of this methodology as a youth studies research approach in various youth settings including youth studies, in an exploratory study. Methodology: In order to achieve our research objectives, we initially introduced the GCM methodology and presented a detailed research procedure to explore its potential applications in the field of youth. To accomplish this, we conducted an analysis of prior research and relevant manuals. Findings: The GCM method consists of six stages: preparation, generating ideas, structuring the ideas, analysis, interpretation, and using the results. It visualizes the conceptual organization of the group's structured discussions as a concept map and confirms that it is a mixed-methods approach that utilizes multivariate statistical techniques such as multidimensional scaling and hierarchical cluster analysis. Furthermore, it explores the possibility of its application in the field of youth. Conclusions: Through this study, we explored the potential applicability of the research methodology from various perspectives. Additionally, we presented a paradigm for Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR), an approach that is still uncommonly utilized in youth studies, to enable youth to participate as research subjects. This is significant in that it offers a framework for youth engagement in research.
