Abstract

This study examines how the Dār al-Madīnah Museum in Saudi Arabia reconstructs the life of the Prophet Muhammad and the formation of the early Islamic community through visual and spatial narrative strategies, and how these narratives contribute to the formation and reconfiguration of collective memory. Integrating Seymour Chatman’s story–discourse model with the collective memory theories of Maurice Halbwachs, Pierre Nora, and Jan Assmann, the study analyzes the interplay between narrative and memory within the exhibition. The findings reveal that through miniatures, maps, and Qurʾanic inscriptions, the museum re-narrativizes the history and meaning of faith, thereby reconstructing religious identity and functioning as a discursive space that sustains and extends communal memory. This study highlights the role of museum narratives in translating sacred history into a contemporary cultural memory.
