Abstract
This study explored the effectiveness of a short-term True Self Meditation program for managing job stress and promoting mentalhealth among Fire and Rescue Personnel. A single-group pre-post design was applied to 116 personnel, measuring depression andanxiety, and qualitatively analyzing participants’ self-reflection essays. The entire six-hour intervention was identically repeatedover three separate days (November 21, 28, and 29, 2022). While no significant changes were observed in the overall group, subgroupanalysis of high-risk participants revealed meaningful improvements. Specifically, the depression high-risk group (n=44)showed statistically significant reductions in both depression (d=0.47) and anxiety (d=0.43) symptoms following the intervention. Furthermore, the anxiety high-risk group (n=18) demonstrated a significant reduction in anxiety (d=0.52). Qualitative findings confirmed diverse positive changes, including self-reflection, emotional relief, improved self-management capacity, and positivegrowth. These results suggest that the True Self Meditation program, even with only 6 hours of brief intervention, holds potentialfor effectively contributing to symptom amelioration and mental health protection for high-vulnerability Fire and Rescue Personnel. Subsequent research requires further validation of causality and sustainability through a randomized controlled trial (RCT) andlong-term follow-up.
