시대적 반성과 창작방법의 모색 - 1930년대 중ㆍ후반의 시문학을 중심으로

Abstract

This paper analyzes the pursuit of a new method for creating Korean poetry that stemmed from the self-reflection of Joseon literary circles during the mid to late 1930s and in connection with that critical flow, provides an inductive study of contemporary poetry. The Joseon literary circles of that time criticized contemporary literature to be lacking 'life' and 'reality'. To fill this void, the work that gives 'life' significance as seen in contemporary poetry, involves a historical and real consciousness that restores the external situation at a new starting point which in a negative light, had shaped 'history' as an active behavior, 'youth' as experience of languid hopelessness and suffering from colonial modern times, and the 'home'. Meanwhile, the method that brought to light subject matter attempted by poets in the mid to late 1930s was seen as a special quality that concluded humanism, intellectual discussion, interconnection and 'humanity' as intellectual inquiry. Also during this time, eroticism, images of decadence, physical illness, and forms of death essentially reached the principle of corruption from a cyclic structure of degradation and rejuvenation. The creative qualities in poetry that sang of hope through death are linked as a revisited theme of 'decadence' along with 'reality', 'life' and 'moral' which are distinct from the decadent trend of romanticism in the 1920s. The three themes presented in this paper aim to lay the foundation for a new phase in poetry that contradicts the already established system. Thus, through these contradictions, the method of creation that dreams of rejuvenation undergoes a critical moment to test 'life' and living poets are now given the chance to take on this challenge.
