Abstract
The purpose of this study was to understand the structural relationship between the factors affecting career development behavior of highly educated women. In particular, this study focused on career development behaviors of regular female workers with academic background above college graduates. The data from 'Research on career development factors of highly educated women', conducted by Yonsei University and National Research Foundation of Korea, were used for statistical analyses. A questionnaire data of 470 regular female workers under 40 years of age were analyzed using structural equation modeling. Supervisors’ gender equality perception, job satisfaction, career satisfaction, and career development behavior were used as latent variables. As shown by the results, first, supervisor’s gender equality perception has a significant positive affect on career development behavior. Second, job satisfaction and career satisfaction have a significant positive affect on career development behavior. Finally, job satisfaction and career satisfaction have a mediating effect on the causal relationship between supervisor’s gender equity perception and career development behavior. These results are meaningful in the context of research on female workers, because a perception of supervisor, along with gender equality policies, was found to be an important factor in the career development of women.
